From E-Patients to AI Patients: The Tidal Wave Empowering Patients, Redefining Clinical Relationships, and Transforming Care

In 2017, Jo PM joined JMIR Publications as a peer-reviewed, open access journal to advance the science of participatory care (also referred to as coproduction and co-design). Published papers mirror the 15-year shift in relationships between patients, their health information, and their providers. Leveraging Technology to Engage Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Consumers With Children at Farmers Markets: Qualitative Community-Engaged Approach to App Development

Mobile apps are a popular approach in translational science in behavioral health interventions [24,25], demonstrating some success in changing dietary patterns [26]. Effective dissemination, implementation, and translational science, however, hinges on community engagement, where the target population is engaged in all processes from problem identification to design and implementation of interventions [27].

Use of Virtual Reality in the Pediatric Perioperative Setting and for Induction of Anesthesia: Mixed Methods Pilot Feasibility Study

Communication among patients, parents, and clinicians was maintained during the VR intervention. Clinicians explained what they were doing and notified the patient before important time points, such as leaving the waiting room for the OR. Clinicians and parents were actively involved in the VR intervention, asking children what they were seeing. Their involvement fostered a positive environment for patients to be immersed in VR.

Examining the Longitudinal Impact of Within- and Between-Day Fluctuations in Food Parenting Practices on Child Dietary Intake: Protocol for a Longitudinal Cohort Study Within a Sample of Preschooler-Parent Dyads

Retention strategies focused on consistent communication to ensure participant engagement and adherence. Participants received regular reminders to complete EMA, dietary recalls, and surveys. Study staff and data collectors were trained to follow up with participants promptly, typically within 1 business day, to address any questions, delays, or noncompliance. Participants scheduled for in-person visits were contacted via text or phone calls to confirm the date, time, and location.
